General Description:

The Greater Sooty Owl is a medium to large owl. They have a finely white spotted head with dispersed white spots on the wings. The females are lighter shaded than the guys.

The females length is 37–43 cm and weighs 750-1200 g. The more modest male has a length of 37–43 cm and gauges 500-700 g. The wing length is 30–40 cm.

Habitat:

Greater Sooty Owl are found in south-eastern Australia, Montane rainforests of New Guinea and have been seen on Flinders Island in the Bass Strait. They are nighttime and perch in large tree hollows, caverns and in thick foliage during sunshine hours.



Diet:

Some of Greater Sooty Owls diet are- greater glider, ringtail possums, sugar gliders, bandicoots, rodents, antechinus etc.

Conservation Status:

Greater Sooty Owls are not recorded as compromised on the Australian Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. In any case, their preservation status changes from one state to another inside Australia.
